Hanging Lake trail run
This unique park and trail is located just off interstate 70, about two and a half hours west of Denver. Note: that exit 125 is only available if you are heading east on I-70. So if you come from Denver, you'll have to go past it a couple miles to the next exit and turn around. The exit only goes to rest area and parking lot. That is the only place to start the trail.
The trail and park is within the White River National Forest. It's about 2.5 miles round trip and goes up about 1,000 feet in elevation. If you run up, take some pictures and run down, it can be done in an hour. However, take some time, take some water, and plan for 2-3 hours at this destination.
At the top of the trail is a upper lake, some waterfalls with trees clinging to the edge, and the lower lake. Be sure not to miss the two trails that go on either side of the lower lake to get up close and personal with the waterfalls. Here are some of the highlights:
